Zenith, BV, Plateelbakkerij en Pijpenfabrieken v/h Firma P.J. van der Want Azn
Originally Zenith was a Gouda Pipe-Factory, Art Nouveau: decorative art pottery and hollow-ware/kitchenware ceramics (used dark clay) with nature decoration and a gloss glaze, like in the brown and deep purple of decor Clymatis after 1915. In the 1920s Pottery Factory/Plateelbakkerij Zenith in Gouda, moved over at mat glazes (flower decors Ruby, Daisy, Vera, Percy) and decoration at pre-burn glaze. Mark/backstamp: Zenith Gouda, sometimes label: mixed Z G, echt glazuur.
In the 1930s Zenith produced art deco vases and hollow-ware pottery, plain or multi-colour by Willem Stuurman, modelnr. ca. 386-646, contemporary style. Masks designed by Cris Agterberg. next also the traditional ceramics Delft ware, blue and white, souvenir-vases and tiles.
During World War II Pottery factory Zenith was obligated to produce cheap hollow-ware/kitchenware pottery, like soup bowls, pudding/yelly moulds, preserving-jars and milkbeakers. Revival after this period, since 1955 for 10 years Floris Meydam designed vases and hollow-ware pottery. Combination of pottery and wooden parts in the sixties. In 1981 "Oudt Hollants Porceleyn" was produced to break through the depression in the ceramics market, which did not succeed.
