Andree, Johannes Hendricus

Potter Hein Andree experimented the first part of the 20th century with different kinds of clay, glaze ingrediënts and different baking temperatures for refreshing pottery results. Mark/backstamp: J.H. Andree, placed codes at the bottom of his work which refer to different glaze-compositions.

Became a member of the Glaze Group/Glazurengroep around 1920, their models were inspired at the Chinese Tang ceramics, but also at Persian and Egyptian pottery. Monochrome, but also multi colour effects. Ornaments & decorations were replaced by dominant colours, like orange, red, purple and blue.

The glaze is the distinguished power of his work. Decorative art pottery, vases/tankards with ears, green & yellow hollow-ware pottery. Andree loved nature related glazes; cat, snake and hare skin imitations.
