Willem de Vries had his own little ceramics workshop pottenbakkerij 'Elfhoeven' between 1936-1938. In 1932 designed just for a short while for St. Lukas and en assisted Bert Nienhuis in his workshop in the beginning of 1933. Worked between 1933-1936 at Gouda Pottery Factory Regina, he begins as plaster-pourer, mould-maker, hand-turner and worked himself up to designer.
Between 1943-1962 Wim de Vries defined all the designs of the pottery items at Fris Edam and this factory obtained an important position in the pottery market. Bauhaus & Nieuwe Zakelijkheid: colours were not allowed to lay stress on ceramics or distract from the model/shape.
