Lorm, Cornelis de
Decorative art designer Cornelis de Lorm, made his first designs in 1923 (- 1930's) for the Decorative Art Department of Pottery factory Zuid Holland. First a tea service/set and later on a complete breakfast service Zonnebloem/Sunflower (radish shaped) in mat or glossy yellow, turquoise, white and moss-green, came on the market in 1925. He designed also the advertisement material for this decor Sunflower.
Characteristic was his S-shaped contour lines which correspond with the functional usability, these requirements where important for the design, point where the industry meets the decorative art. Transformed into simplicity, soberness and efficiency, like the designs based on a geometrical figure, pure circle.
Designs dinner sets for the Batavier ship-line and tea set Honk were not executed because of the strike in 1928/29 at Zuid Holland. Artists were paid in royalties (5%), De Lorm also designed the stationery for the Decorative Art Department.
