Decorative Art & furniture store Metz & Co, sold Gouda pottery in cooperation with the general agency for complete Holland of Liberty & Co, London. That is why this famous store was sometimes called Liberty. Sold a.o. work of W.C. Brouwer. Mark/backstamp see picture.
Between 1918-1940 presented Het Nieuwe Wonen/New way of Living, combination of avant-garde and commerce. Metz & Co brought together rich customers and artists. Rhyme: If Mama buys at Liberty, Dad gets the bill and shivered' he! At the grand opening of Metz' store in Den Haque in 1927, there was an exposition and presentation of the decorative art pottery of C.J. Lanooy, Hildo Krop, G. de Blanken and J.C. van Ham.
